Sagra del Carciofo Moretto
The "Moretto" is a hardy artichoke variety that prefers the siliceous-clayey soils typical of the Romagna badlands, well exposed to the sun.
Unlike other varieties, the "Moretto" has not been genetically improved, allowing it to maintain its natural characteristics and aromas over time.
It could be called "the native of the native," as the true variety is found only in Brisighella. It is currently cultivated by about thirty producers, ten of whom have been awarded the title of "Custode del Carciofo Moretto."
The Moretto plant grows as a bush that can reach a height of 150 centimeters.
The grayish-green leaves are large and spiny, hanging outward.
The Moretto is purple with golden highlights, with well-formed, rigid yellow-black spines.
The festival, scheduled for May 3rd, celebrates this local product that grows wild along the gullies of Brisighella, where good exposure to the sun allows it to reach its peak organoleptic properties.
The "moretto" can be eaten raw or lightly boiled, seasoned with salt and oil, preferably the excellent "Brisighello" oil.
