Rimini, the longest New Year’s Eve in the world
Rimini is set to host the “Longest New Year’s Eve in the world”, with many events for more than a month of celebrations, from 21 November to Epiphany, including music, art, culture, cinema, shows and Christmas initiatives, markets, traditional and sand nativity scenes and the ice-skating rink close to the beach.
A widespread programme that will kick off with the switching on of the Christmas lights on 21 November and will continue until Epiphany.
The highlight of the event is an extended New Year's Eve party, featuring a wider programme, with new venues joining an event that brings together culture, ideas, art, entertainment and music.
- 30 December – “Penultima Notte” features a major live music event in Piazza Malatesta, ideally connected with the first live presentation of Alessandro Baricco’s new project, “Waterloo live #1”, at the Galli Theatre. This shared listening experience will also be broadcast outside the theatre on a large screen in Piazza Cavour, specially transformed for the occasion.
- 31 December – The city comes alive with a series of New Year’s Eve celebrations spread throughout the city: an extended dancefloor featuring 10 parties in 10 venues, from the historic centre to the seafront, perfect for Rimini's choral toast to the New Year, which will culminate with the double performance of the Fire at the Castle at the Malatesta Fortress in Piazza dei Sogni. The longest night of the year will feature DJ Rotation, with the DJs who made the history of the clubs along the Riviera, and RDS 100% GRANDI SUCCESSI.
- 2 January – Piazza Malatesta hosts a free concert by Goran Bregović, presenting “God Is Not Your Babysitter” accompanied by the Wedding and Funeral Orchestra.
As tradition dictates, the new year begins with great opera and the New Year Opera, promoted by the Amintore Galli City of Rimini Opera Choir.
From 26 December to 3 January, civic museums, theatres and cultural venues will remain open into the evening, offering guided tours, talks, readings, performances, music, storytelling and site-specific art installations.
