On Thursday 25 September, Cervia will host the final day of the ESP (Exploitation Settlements and Productive Landscapes) project workshop. The first of two days will take place in Bologna and will be dedicated to the study of medieval urban and rural settlements and their role in the management of natural resources and complex production cycles. The ESP project analysed two contexts of extraordinary historical importance: Cervia Vecchia, a salt production centre, where research was conducted by the University of Bologna, and Piuro (SO), a centre for soapstone processing, studied by the University of Verona. Through archaeological investigations, geo-environmental analyses and a participatory approach, it investigated the evolution of medieval production landscapes, offering new opportunities for the enhancement of archaeological heritage and promoting innovative research and communication practices. The conference, organised by the Department of History, Culture and Civilisation of the University of Bologna in collaboration with the Municipality of Cervia, will present the results of the research and offer new perspectives on the relationship between settlements, landscape and natural resources in the past. Participation is free of charge.
