St. Martin's Sweetness and Flavours Fair of Montescudo and Monte Colombo
The event was created to celebrate the traditional agricultural New Year, a very important day in rural culture that marked the beginning of the agricultural year, the sharecroppers’ arrival on their new plots at the end of the land-tilling cycle, and the effective date of agricultural contracts.
Today, it is an opportunity to:
- showcase the local area’s traditional products and artistic crafts:“Monte dello Scudo” DOC wine, cheeses, honey, mushrooms, Montescudo potatoes, terracotta ware, and Romagna-style rust-printing
- raise awareness of the “Pagnotta di San Martino*,” made with fall produce according to an ancient and secret recipe handed down within the small parish of Monte Colombo.
This year’s event will feature an exhibition dedicated to the ancient craft of Romagna rust-printing, which many believe originated in Montescudo, complete with demonstrations of the process.
Starting in the morning, there will be traditional Romagna songs and dances, as well as musical performances, with opportunities to sample traditional local dishes such as “maltagliati ai fagioli.”
- Recognized as a P.A.T. (traditional agri-food product) by the Emilia-Romagna Region.
