Cervia Garden City
From spring to autumn, the green areas of Cervia, Milano Marittima, Pinarella, and Tagliata are transformed by spectacular botanical and floral displays. On the occasion of "Cervia Città Giardino," the urban fabric shifts into a mosaic of scents and colors capable of marveling both residents and tourists alike. Through the slogan "Flowers of freedom, roots of hope," the aim is to translate the pivotal principles of democracy into a visual representation, harnessing the universal communicative power of nature.
The blossoming of the city is interpreted as a symbol of regeneration and new bonds between communities, representing the very essence of the event. Just as the green heritage demands constant dedication to thrive, the civil values of the nation also require daily care. Freedom and democracy are not to be understood as static achievements, but rather as dynamic ideals that necessitate participation, a sense of responsibility, and collective commitment to consolidate social ties and continue generating beauty.
Cervia Città Giardino
The initiative originated in 1972 under the name “Maggio in Fiore,” born from an intuition by Germano Todoli and subsequently developed by his son Riccardo. The current title was adopted in the 1990s to highlight the environmental peculiarities of the territory which, as early as the beginning of the 20th century, inspired Giuseppe Palanti in the design of a "garden city" based on the theories of the English urban planner Ebenezer Howard.
The exhibition, which enjoys international resonance, has always pursued the goal of environmental protection and the valorization of nature as a vehicle for brotherhood. Annually, in the month of May, master gardeners from over 60 entities—including Italian and foreign cities, institutions, and associations—gather to oversee the landscaping of as many green areas. This gives life to what is defined as the largest open-air floral art exhibition in Europe. The prestige of the event lies in its profound symbolic value: the creation and consolidation of bonds with different cultures and territories, understood as an indispensable prerequisite for a future based on solidarity, mutual respect, and peace.
