The 109th edition of the Giro d'Italia, one of the world's most prestigious road cycling competitions, will once again stop off in Emilia-Romagna. On Sunday 17 May, the pink caravan will set off from Cervia (RA) to tackle the ninth stage, finishing at Corno alle Scale (BO).

The route, entirely designed in the Romagna region, represents a significant return of the event to the Adriatic city after the 2020 edition. The stage winds its way from the seascapes and pine forests of Cervia to the slopes of the Bolognese Apennines, culminating in the climb to the summit of Corno alle Scale, the highest in the area.

With a total length of 184 kilometres and an elevation gain of 2,400 metres, this stage is one of the most challenging of the first week of the race. Its configuration, combining flat sections and challenging climbs, will offer athletes a technically demanding and spectacular test, confirming Emilia-Romagna as the absolute protagonist of the 2026 edition.

The runners will pass through San Zaccaria, San Pietro in Vincoli, San Pietro in Trento, Bivio di Russi, Cotignola, Barbiano, Solarolo, in the Ravenna area, then Mordano, Castel Guelfo di Bologna, Poggio Piccolo, Ponte Rizzoli, San Lazzaro di Savena, Rastignano, Pian di Macina (Musiano), Sasso Marconi, Marzabotto, Pioppe, Vergato, Riola, Molinaccio, Silla, Gaggio Montano, Querciola, Villaggio Europa, Vidiciatico, Madonna dell'Acero and Corno alle Scale (in the province of Bologna).

The finish line is uphill, at an altitude of 1,471 metres, and also marks a return to Corno, 22 years after Gilberto Simoni's stage victory in 2004.
